Simon Smotkowicz Elected CCFCC National President

250+ Chefs and Culinary Partners from across Canada gathered for the CCFCC National Conference at the Regency Hyatt in Calgary, Alberta from May 25 – 29, 2017. The “Finding Balance” Conference was buzzing with activity such as a documentary screening with Junior Team Canada, seminars about Health and Wellness, Canadian wine pairing, Goat Cheese and Big Rock Brewery pairing, Sturgeon Caviar and Sustainability to name a few.

During the National Annual General Meeting on May 27th, all 30 branches from across Canada assembled to elect a new Treasurer and President for the National Board of Directors. There were three candidates for Treasurer Dan Carpino from the Muskoka Branch, Fred Malley from the Calgary Branch and Chris Moreland from the Oakville Branch. There were two candidates for the role of President Rod Butters from the Okanagan Branch and Simon Smotkowicz from Edmonton.

After each candidate shared their platforms, the branch presidents voted on behalf of their membership. Chris Moreland was elected Treasurer, and Simon Smotkowicz was elected President.

Simon Smotkowicz has a great history with the CCFCC, nationally and locally. He has served a term as National Treasurer, has been the President of the Edmonton Branch ( and is currently also the Secretary on the Board of Directors.

The coming year will be one where we will need to make some serious decisions about the CCFCC. We continue to see declining membership numbers. I firmly believe this must become a priority for the CCFCC. There has to be an actual perceivable and quantifiable value both personally and professionally for ALL our members. My diverse experience has prepared me to step into the role of National President and hit the ground running. I pledge to use my background, knowledge, and experience to best serve the needs of the CCFCC.” – Simon Smotkowicz
